JACKSON COUNTY, WV (WOWK) — A wanted suspect turned himself in on Friday in relation to a fight that happened at a high school basketball game on Jan. 31, court records say.

Court records indicate that Carl Johnston turned himself in, in Jackson County, West Virginia. Johnston was charged with battery for allegedly punching a female student in the face at a boy’s game between Ripley and St. Albans high schools.

St. Albans Police Department Captain Philip Bass says the altercation started when a female from Ripley walked over to the St. Albans student section and started screaming at people. Eventually, it got out of control, and a man believed to be the girl’s father allegedly punched a student.

According to a criminal complaint, the altercation lasted about a minute, and the girl’s eye was slightly bruised.

The battery charge is a misdemeanor, according to court records.
