In the final days before the deadline for the Governor to sign bills, Governor Jim Justice signed one medical marijuana bill while vetoing another.
On Tuesday the Governor signed the medical marijuana banking bill. House Bill 2538 allows third party institutions to bid for banking services related to the state’s medical marijuana program.
“I always have, and I always will fully support medical cannabis for our people who are in so much pain that their physicians deem it absolutely necessary,” said Gov. Justice.\
On Wednesday Governor Justice vetoed House Bill 2079. A bill that would allow vertical integration in the medical marijuana program.
“While I’m grateful that the Governor signed the Cannabis Banking Act, without this legislation, cannabis business accounts will remain empty, suffering people will remain untreated, and badly needed tax revenue will go unrealized,“ said Del. Mike Pushkin, (D) Kanawha, a sponsor of HB 2079.
