UPDATE (4:11 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28): We’re learning new information about a shooting that happened just outside St. Albans in the community of West Side.

The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to the 1400 block of Cousin Drive after Metro 911 operators received reports of a gunshot in the area.

They say that a man was shot in the leg and taken to CAMC General Hospital with a serious injury.

Deputies say they’re looking for a white man wearing a black shirt who ran from the scene.

KCSO says that they deployed a K9 to track the suspect, and they arrested a man on Empire Drive for an active capias. This was not the man that was not identified as the shooter and was not connected to the incident.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to notify the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Section immediately.

KCSO says there is no active threat to the public.

UPDATE (1:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28): Kanawha County dispatchers say that one person is now in custody after a shooting in the West Side area.


KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (WOWK)—Crews are responding to a shooting in the West Side community.

Kanawha County dispatchers say that a man was shot in the leg on the 1400 block of Cousin Dr.

The call came in around 1:00 p.m.

The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office is still searching for the suspect.

Hayes Middle School is on a precautionary lockdown due to the incident, according to Kanawha County Schools.
