Landslide Closes Roadway in Kanawha County

West Virginia

A major landslide has closed a roadway in Kanawha County.

As much as 3 inches of rain fell in Charleston in just a couple of hours, with Yeager Airport reporting 3.05″ and a nearby home in Mink Shoals reporting 2.83″.

The extreme rainfall caused a large landslide to take place along Barlow Drive on the north side of Charleston, causing the road to be closed.

Emergency Management Director C.W. Sigman says that the Department of Highways have been notified and are preparing to work on the slide, but no timeline on the opening of the roadway could be determine.

The slide is located about a mile from the end of the road near Wagner Drive.

This is not the first slide to take place in this area over the last few years, with a major slide taking place on Keystone Drive in 2015.
