Those who use natural gas in their homes could see a reduction in their bills this winter. The West Virginia Public Service Commission said they are reviewing “Purchased Gas Adjustment” cases that were recently filed.
According to a release from the PSC, natural gas companies have asked the Commission to lower the purchased gas portion of their rates. Here is a look at the requested rate reductions by company:
- Mountaineer Gas – 3.95%
- Hope Gas/Dominion Energy – 5.03%
- Lumberport-Shinnston Gas – 5.9%
- Peoples Gas – 4.8%
While the commission does not regulate the price of natural gas, it does work to ensure companies are getting a reliable gas supply at the lowest market price. Gas rates of customers are adjusted annually to account for the cost of gas.
That process is called the Purchased Gas Adjustment. The PGA is an estimate of expected prices utilities will have to pay for gas from their suppliers for the period of Nov. 1 to Oct. 31 of the following year.
