Missing man found dead in Berkeley County

West Virginia

After the disappearance of a man in the Hagerstown area, police have confirmed that he was found dead in a drainage ditch in a remote area of Berkeley County.

Christopher Turner, 27, was found off of Buck Hill Road Wednesday afternoon in Gerrardstown, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department.

Investigators said Turner was missing since Sunday, and they found his car in the west end of Hagerstown. Police said they are investigating his death as a homicide due to the condition of his body.

“Based on the condition of his body and the nature of how he was found, all indications are this is a murder,” said Chief Paul Kifer. “I will say our condolences go out to the family. We know it’s been difficult for them to not know what’s going on with Chris for two weeks since he was last in contact with them. We’re diligent and we will work this tirelessly, ’til we bring the people that are responsible for this to justice.”

The body was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Charleston, W. Va. for an autopsy. The results will be sent to the Hagerstown Police Department once they are available.

These are all the details that have been released at this time. Anyone with information is asked to call the Hagerstown Police Department at (301) 790-3700.
