UPDATE (10:51 a.m. on Friday, March 17): The name of one of the people killed in this crash has been released by the West Virginia State Police.
The driver of the motorcycle was 19-year-old Devon Brantly, of Birch River. The other person’s name is not being released because she was a juvenile.
Both were ejected from the motorcycle and were pronounced dead on the scene.
WVSP says that a trooper clocked the motorcycle traveling at 120 mph using a dash-mounted radar and tried to conduct a traffic stop. During a pursuit, the motorcycle turned from US Route 19 onto Youngs Monument Rd. and then back onto US Route 19 before it struck a log truck.
UPDATE (7:46 p.m. on Thursday, March 16): Nicholas County dispatchers say Rt. 19 reopened at around 6:45 p.m.
UPDATE (6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 16): A man and a woman were killed in a motorcycle crash in Nicholas County. According to emergency officials, one person died at the scene of the crash and a second person died later at a hospital.
Officials say the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it collided with a semi-trailer.
The crash happened in the Powell Mountain Area of Rt. 19 around 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon. West Virginia State Police are investigating the crash.
