Police: 2 teenagers facing charges for recording attack, posting video to social media

West Virginia

BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — Police arrested two teenagers for a brutal beating that was recorded and posted to social media.

Someone called Beckley Police about a Snapchat video that showed two two teenagers viciously attacking someone. The incident happened on Hylton Lane near Harper Road.

From the video, police were able to find the victim who suffered severe cuts and injuries to the face.

Police identified a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy as the attackers. Their names are not being released because of their ages.

“We were very thankful that the person came forward with this video. We would like for all the students in schools that work with our resource officers to build those connections and those relationships so they have an avenue to report it. If you see something occurring or you know that something has occurred, and you have the ability to capture that and secure it,  we would really like that and actually recommend that,” Detective David Allard said.

Both teenagers are charged with malicious wounding and conspiracy to commit a felony. They are being detained at this time.
