UPDATE: Suspect, victim identified in fatal Milton gas station shooting

UPDATE (12:20 p.m. on Thursday, May 27): The suspect in a fatal shooting at a gas station in Milton has been identified as Carl Rose Jr. of Milton.

On Wednesday, Milton police responded to a 4:55 p.m. call regarding a shooting at Go-Mart at 323 Summers Addition Road. After they arrived, officers detained Rose, securing his gun from him. The victim was 54-year-old James Anthony Oldham, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, who was shot multiple times and died at the scene.

A release from the Milton Police Department says that there was a domestic dispute between Oldham and his wife, and Rose tried to intervene while armed with a pistol. Rose shot Oldham during the ensuing altercation. Oldham turned to run, and Rose shot him several times in his back.

Oldham died in the parking lot.


CABELL COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – A man has died after a shooting at a gas station in Cabell County.

The shooting took place at the Go-Mart off the Milton exit of I-64 just before 6 p.m.

The man was shot multiple times and died as a result of his injuries. His identity has not been released.

Milton Police Chief Joe Parsons says the victim and the suspect did not know each other, however he does believe it was an isolated incident.

A person is in custody in the case.

Milton Police are investigating the cause of the shooting.
