MORGANTOWN, WV (WBOY) – The Morgantown Police Department has released a statement alerting residents about pamphlets in support of the Ku Klux Klan that were passed out in Morgantown and the surrounding community.

Many residents reported that they received small sandwich bags filled with birdseed and pamphlets in support of the Ku Klux Klan, according to police. Officers said it appears as if the materials were thrown onto porches and lawns from a passing vehicle. The phone numbers and the organization listed in the materials is based out of Reidsville, North Carolina, officers said.

Law enforcement in several states and communities, as well as the FBI are aware of the recent distribution of these materials. Officers said the recent activities do not appear to be targeted at any one person or community and are widespread.

Officers advise anyone who receives these materials to simply them away. In addition, police ask that anyone that may have observed the vehicle or can describe anyone who is distributing these materials in support of the hate group contact their local law enforcement agency.
