MORGANTOWN, WV (WOWK) – A Morgantown man has been arrested on an assault charge after police say he bit part of another man’s ear off during an altercation.

At approximately 5:04 p.m. on Monday, February 18, officers with the Morgantown Police Department responded to a reported domestic battery in progress at a residence on Listravia Avenue in Morgantown. Upon arrival, officers said they were advised that a male suspect had struck a female in the face and that everyone involved was still on scene.

Officers said they found a highly intoxicated man on the kitchen floor with blood on his clothes, face and mouth. The man was later identified as William Clark, 31, of Morgantown.

Officers said they also found another man, the victim, inside of the residence that was bleeding profusely from the side of his head. People inside of the residence were yelling “he bit his ear off” and officers found a large portion of the victim’s ear missing and the remaining part of his ear disfigured, according to police.

Police said that Clark continued to try to fight officers and was extremely belligerent while being escorted out of the residence.

Officers said that the investigation revealed that the victim was at work and came home after receiving text messages about an ongoing disagreement between the victim’s daughter and Clark. After arriving home to his residence on Listravia Avenue, the victim and Clark got into a physical altercation that resulted in Clark biting the victim’s ear, police said.

People inside of the residence told police that they were able to separate the victim and Clark, with one person using a frying pan to keep Clark at bay until police arrived.

Clark was arrested following this incident and taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital for evaluation due to the physical altercation he was in and his state of intoxication, according to police. Clark was then released from the hospital and charged with malicious wounding.

The victim was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital and will follow up with officers after receiving treatment.
