A release from the Congressional Institute regarding a Republican legislative conference at The Greenbrier Resort confirms the event has been postponed. The event was origially scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 30 to Friday, Feb. 1, 2019.
“This annual conference is an important time for Republican Members of Congress to come together and discuss your legislative priorities and strategies for the upcoming year. If ever a planning retreat was needed it is now. The Congress has reorganized, the budget remains unpassed and major problems confront the nation,” the release stated.
The decision to postpone the event was made after consulting with Republican leadership and in light of the ongoing government shutdown. A statement from the Congressional Institute said members of Congress should be in Washington, D.C. to “negotiate a path that gets our federal workforce back on the job.”
The conference is expected to be rescheduled for later in the year.
