Two Escape Charleston Apartment Fire

West Virginia

An apartment building has been badly damaged by an early-morning fire in Charleston’s West Side.

Crews were called to the scene just before 4 a.m. on Indiana Ave.

The building had four apartments, two people were home on the bottom floor at the time of the fire and were able to escape safely, crews don’t believe anybody else was in the units during the fire.

Firefighters tell us the cold weather made getting this fire out particularly difficult and at one point there was concern the ceiling could collapse as they worked to put out the flames.

Red Cross has been called to assist the people impacted by the fire.

At this point there’s no word on how it started.
