CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK/AP) – A West Virginia man has admitted to sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl aboard a cruise ship in the Bahamas.
Joshua I. Morrison, 21, of Kenova, WV pleaded guilty Monday to sexual abuse of a minor.
“It’s a parent’s worst nightmare,” said United States Attorney Mike Stuart. “To have a child victimized in this way is unimaginable period. But to think it would happen while on a family vacation is even worse. My office stands ready to prosecute every single child sex offender brought to us by our law enforcement partners.”
Prosecutors say the abuse occurred in January of 2016 in a cruise ship bathroom.
The United States Attorney’s office says Morrison admitted that the sexual abuse took place on board a cruise ship in international waters. They also say he admitted that he was 18-years-old at the time, the girl was 12-years-old at the time, and he knew she was 12-years-old at the time.
Morrison faces up to 15 years in prison. Sentencing has been set for Oct. 11 in federal court in Charleston.
