West Virginia mom charged with child neglect, accused of keeping meth in home

MARION COUNTY, W.Va. (WBOY) – A Marion County woman is facing a child neglect charge after deputies said she kept methamphetamine in her home in a place where her juvenile son could have had accessed it.

On April 20, 2019, deputies with the Marion County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to a residence at Oakwood Mobile Home Park in Fairmont to investigate a report of a domestic altercation. Deputies said the altercation involved Amy Leeson, 26, of Fairmont and Clinton Kendall. Their young child was present at the time of the altercation, deputies said.

Through on-scene investigation, statements from all parties involved, physical observations and evidence, deputies said they determined that Kendall arrived to Leeson’s residence at Oakwood Mobile Home Park with their juvenile son, whom they had shared custody of, on April 19. Deputies said Kendall and Leeson began arguing, which continued into the morning hours of April 20.

During the morning hours, the argument turned physical, according to court documents. Deputies said the physical altercation included knee strikes, slaps, shoving and strikes with a baseball bat. Both Leeson and Kendall had injuries from the altercation, according to deputies.

Deputies said Leeson and Kendall’s young son was in the immediate area of the physical altercation and was at least on one occasion in immediate risk of being struck with the baseball bat. Additionally, deputies discovered that methamphetamine had been present in the home and was stored in a manner that the child could have gained access to it, deputies said. Deputies also said there is statement evidence that Leeson was under the influence of methamphetamine while in the presence of and while caring for her son.

Leeson has been charged with child neglect risking serious bodily injury, according to court documents. She is currently being held at North Central Regional Jail. It is unknown at this time if Kendall is facing any charges following this incident.
