West Virginia woman accused of cutting man with knife when he told her he “had to go home”

PHILIPPI, W.Va. (WOWK) – A Barbour County woman is facing an assault charge after police said she cut a man in the head with a knife when he told her that he “had to go home.”

On Saturday April 6, officers with the Philippi Police Department arrived at a residence on North High Street in Philippi after receiving a report that a woman cut a man on the head with a knife. Upon arriving on scene, officers spoke with the victim who stated that “Crazy Christine” cut him on the forehead after had had returned from Smoker Friendly with a drink he bought for her and then told her he had to go home. The woman the victim was referring to was identified as Christine Hatfield, 47, of Philippi, according to police.

Police said the man had a cut on his forehead. The man described the knife used by Hatfield as a 6-7-inch hunting knife. Officers then obtained a video statement from the man.

Hatfield has been charged with malicious assault, according to court documents. She is currently being held at Tygart Valley Regional Jail. Her bail has been set at $5,000.
