Putnam County native Timmy Eads has been selected as West Virginia University’s 66th Mountaineer Mascot.

The selection committee named Eads the next Mountaineer during WVU men’s basketball’s win over TCU. He will assume the role during the 2019-20 school year.

“I’m on cloud nine right now,” said Eads. “This is something I’ve dreamed of for a long time, just to have the opportunity to serve my state and university. It’s an unreal feeling.”

Eads is currently the university’s alternate mascot. The sophomore public relations major will replace current Mountaineer Trevor Kiess next school year. Eads said the two have grown close.

“Trevor has been awesome,” said Eads. “He has been one of my greatest role models throughout the year.”

Eads is an alumnus of Buffalo High School. He is also an executive board member of the Mountaineer Maniacs.
